In my therapeutic work with children I am so aware that the parent-child relationship is the key feature of the child’s well-being. Parents often find themselves focused on their child’s challenging behaviour and ask for support. The money raised will provide the resources needed to set up therapeutic parenting classes to build parental confidence as they re-attune themselves to the needs behind their child’s behaviour.

The key resource needed is a set of video cameras and play tool-kits so that parents can watch themselves and notice how they play with their child. These videos are then brought back to the group so that parents can receive supportive and constructive feedback in a safe environment.

I believe that the best interventions in challenging family dynamics happen as early as possible – allowing the greatest opportunity for change. Parents who feel skilled and confident are able to impact not only their immediate family situation, but also their child’s sense of self in wider relationships and in response to the challenges of school.
