Story

I'm raising £1,550 to improve the lives of a family in Kenya suffering in poverty. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Firstly, I would like to say that this family have never asked me for anything, I actually contacted them to learn more about their lives and how I could help. The family are from the Mijikenda tribe and they live in the villages of Msurujani and Kadzhuhoni which are rural coastal villages in the Malindi area of Kenya. I have performed background checks and there are no obvious charities in place currently to help this community.

Karama is desperately trying to improve the family's food situation, they live each day not knowing where the meal will come from and rely on fish which is seasonal there. Due to flood damaged roads, the villagers can not easily access the town, leaving them without work opportunity and without funds. The family have also explained to me that the government do not offer any help to this particular tribe.

So I thought to myself, rather than donating a small amount each month which won't change much, what is it that the family really need to solve their long term issues of lack of food. Karama explained that if he could buy land and plant crops, he could provide a sustainable food source for his family.

I was shocked to discover how little money is actually needed to feed his family. I managed to raise enough money with the help of my kind clients and friends to purchase the land and build a hut and this will serve as a permanent home for Karama.

Sadly, I wasn't able to raise enough to install a much needed borehole and a solar water irrigation system. Without this, the family are reliant on the natural rainfall which is insufficient and so far crops have failed to grow. Hopefully if you are reading this, you would like to help complete this mission and see Karama's family have a food source.

I've outlined the costs below of the optimal goal!

Installing solar irrigation water system 144,823 KENYAN SHILLINGS

Drilling borehole - metres of drilling unknown until complete but maximum would be 40metres drilling is 60,000 KENYAN SHILLINGS

Cement for borehole - amount unknown until borehole is complete/maximum 20 bags - 18,000 KENYAN SHILLINGS

Tank to go with water system-34,828 KENYAN SHILLINGS

50KG sack of maize - 6000 KENYAN SHILLINGS

TOTAL TO COMPLETE MISSION 263,651 KENYAN SHILLINGS (£1536 OR $2040)

Any help, no matter how small is greatly appreciated by Karama and his family - thank you in advance for your kindness everyone!

Other information - Karama has a music interest and with the help of our music network he’s managed to share some songs on social media. Karama has had some help with phone/internet cost so that he can continue to raise awareness of life in the Kenyan villages on social media.
