    Story

Tamworth Boxing Club (TBC) is a charity established in 1969 that has a track record of working with the most vulnerable members of our community. TBC has successfully delivered a high number of projects aimed at all sectors of a local community that has experienced significant economic decline and increasing poverty over recent years. TBC’s aims and objectives as expressed in our constitution state:

“The advancement of education and the provision of recreational and leisure time activities in particular boxing facilities for all age groups of the community, in the interests of social welfare with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the said people.”

It is fair to say TBC is no longer just a Boxing Club. We have an established Education Centre base, in addition to our gym, and provide not only sport, health, recreation classes but also provide programmes and support to pupils excluded from school, people with disabilities, women and girl’s only fitness sessions and healthy eating and cooking support.

The aims and objectives of our club have diversified with the range of activities and services we provide to an ever increasing membership and wider community users.

The sheer numbers using the gym means that people from different walks of life and experiences get to mingle and interact. This helps to break down age, race and socio economic boundaries. The Club has been held up as a “Role Model” and a “Case Study” in Regional newspaper and media coverage and has been visited and endorsed as a Community Hub by local Councillors, the local MP and the Police Commissioner. These factors highlight the ability of what was a humble Boxing Club to listen and diversify and provide new and innovative approaches to tacking our communities’ issues and providing innovative and sustainable solutions. We have tackled issues such as crime prevention and early intervention with our work on the Police Commissioners application, delivering Building Resilient Families counselling and sessions and helping address issues of sedentary behaviour and tackling the obesity crisis by ensuring healthy living and cooking and exercise classes and guidance
