Story
The Freelance Broadcast Community is the lifeblood of the Global Television industry - Camera Operators, Editors, TX Operators, Vision Mixers, Slow Mo Replay Operators, Ingest Operators, MCR Operators, the list could go on and on. COVID19 is destroying the short term work available to these individuals. For those of us who have salaried positions with broadcasters, the broadcasters themselves or anyone else in a privileged position, we need your support. We are aiming to raise £500,000 to allow these people to cover their mortgages, put food on the table and continue to live life given the considerable anxiety they will be feeling. These people have supported us for years, it is now our turn to support them.
The Film and TV Charity has been supporting the people working in film, TV and cinema since 1924 – helping people make the most of their careers, and being a lifeline in times of need. In the last year it has helped nearly 2,000 people, including over 500 with financial grants.
In an industry where more than half of workers are freelancers, and others are on limited-hours contracts, COVID-19 will have a catastrophic impact for individuals and their families. The Film and TV Charity estimates that 125,000 people will find themselves without or with limited income in the coming weeks and months.
The Film and TV Support Line operated by the charity – 0800 054 0000 - is already receiving hundreds of calls from those already struggling as productions are postponed or cancelled, and cinemas closed.
The Charity can offer emotional support, but wants to offer as much financial support as it can to those in immediate need. Giving what you can might make all the difference to an industry colleague and their family. Thank you for your generosity at this extraordinary time.
