I'm raising £1000 to Secure the Future of Surge Radio

Organised by Surge Radio

Story

To celebrate Surge Radio turning 50, we are fundraising to keep on serving Southampton Students for many more years to come.

Surge has been a way to explore and express myself through my favourite medium - music - and witness such immense support from family and friends! Those two hours of creating a setlist and sitting in that studio almost transports me into a different world! - Anika, 1st year Surge Presenter

Surge was founded in 1976 as a pirate radio station in Glen Eyre Halls complex and for fifty years it has provided Southampton University students an outlet for their creativity and self-expression through music, all whilst gaining those precious "air-miles" to go onto bigger and better things in the world of media and broadcasting. Our alumni have ended up working for companies such as Global and Sky, with production, presenting and consulting roles and with this anniversary we are allowing them to roll back the years, giving them a slot alongside some of our current roster, on our 50th anniversary 24 hour special on Friday 5th June from 12pm.

This will all be in aid of the Surge at 50 fundraiser, where all the profits will head towards keeping Surge radio running and thriving for many more years to come. Since COVID due to funding cuts and rising costs such as music licensing, Surge has struggled over recent years. But recently, we are back on the up, from 4 presenters during 2024 to 30 today. Donating will allow us to stave of rising costs and potentially allow us to improve our equipment for Surge to continue it's rise to its former glory.

Thank you for reading and for any questions please do get in touch.
