Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Sarah's story We are delighted that our initial fundraising goal of £130,000 for SurvivalSurgery4Sarah was reached the day before Sarah’s lifesaving brain and spinal surgery on 9th November 2017. To raise this in just 6 weeks was nothing short of a miracle. It represents an outpouring of love from Sarah’s family, friends, her local community of Rochford, and strangers near and far who have been moved by her story. Sarah would like to thank each and every person who was a part of this miracle, whether via a donation or by giving their time and energy to fundraising.

Sarah’s neck fusion surgery was very successful, and as she recovers she continues to discover physical improvements. Most crucially, Sarah’s life has been saved and she is no longer in danger of her brain coming away from her skull.

Sarah’s recovery has been slower than expected, with some setbacks including wound infections which have required her to return to surgery to treat the infected areas. Two bone grafts, part of the fusion in her neck, had to be removed in order to deal with the infection, which weakens the fusion to a degree. Therefore corrective surgery will be needed to reinstate these elements when Sarah is strong enough for the procedure, expected to be in around 6 months. While this is a setback, Sarah is keen to stress that this doesn’t undermine the fact that the surgery was a success and her life has been saved.

This means that we have a new goal of £200,000 which will cover Sarah’s longer than expected recovery from the first surgery and the corrective procedure to come, as well as the full body brace she will need to stabilise the un-fused portion of her spine. Sarah was well enough to leave hospital and go to her accommodation in Barcelona on Christmas Eve, and we expect she will be back home in the New Year to recover and prepare for what is still to come. We hope you will continue to support Sarah in the coming months, with the end goal of seeing Sarah safely back home with her neck fusion surgery completed and restored. What began as a sprint is becoming more of a marathon, and we hope that all of Sarah’s friends and supporters will remain with us on this journey.

We're delighted to have hit our target of £130,000 the day before Sarah's lifesaving surgery on 9th November. She is in all of our thoughts and prayers. Sarah has just found out that, due to more extensive spinal deterioration than expected, she will now need a second procedure which will cost in the region of an additional £70,000 and therefore our target is now £200,000. Full details can be found on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SurvivalSurgery4Sarah/posts/133404583984758 Thank you for your continued support.

Thanks to all the recent publicity and the many fundraising events that have been taking place we are delighted to confirm that we have passed the threshold where we have raised enough to pay for the surgery itself. Right now we have raised over £96,000 and we are pushing hard to try to raise the remaining £34,000 to secure Sarah's recovery, post-operative care and rehabilitation. Thank you all for supporting #survivalsurgery4sarah!
