Story
Nigel took great pleasure and inspiration from quiet walks with Sue and Megan on the Cleveland coast and hills. These walks were never physically arduous marathons, but little journeys of discovery and reflections on nature.
We are raising funds to have made a simple bespoke rustic bench crafted from locally grown timber, to be located on one of his favourate walks. It is hoped that this bench will give anyone passing, not just an oppurtnuty to rest their feet, but also their soul and an opportunity reflect on the view, the beauty of nature and that which within themselves and others.

4 years agoThis weekend we were able to install Nigel's poetry bench on the top of the cliffs on the Cleveland Way, just above the bay at Skinningrove. The bench is oak and made and carved by Keith Ferry. The words are by Debbie Gory, from her book "No Matter What". Thank you to everyone for donating. We still have £500 leftover and I have decided to use the remaining money to go towards the printing costs of getting Nigel's Space Cards, that he had just finished designing, into a pack of playing cards, which he had planned to do as a Kick Starter.

4 years agoNigel's poetry bench is finished, Keith Ferry has done a beautiful job of the carving, which has taken him many hours. We have written permission to place the bench on the Cleveland Way, above Skinningrove and are now waiting for the route to dry up a bit as the oak is very heavy and we will need dry conditions to get Keith's landrover as close as possibel.

5 years agoI have been overwhelmed by the support this just giving page has received and the lovely comments. I am pleased to share that woodsman and forester Keith Ferry has agreed to be the craftsman for this special bench for Nigel. Not only is he a talented wood turner but he has spent a life time caring for the woodlands of East Celeveland and a leading light in the Friends of Errington Wood. I cant think of anyone who I would want more to work on designing and creating this bench for Nigel. Sue x

I look forward to walking with you and sitting on Nigel's bench. He'll truly be missed by our family. We are so sad that he will no longer be here for you both. He was a lovely man.
