Story
Friends of the Cam campaigns to protect the rights of the river Cam and its tributaries, particularly from pollution and over-abstraction and from massive unsustainable growth in the Cambridge area which is exacerbating both. It does this by political action; awareness-raising, including through hosting expert speakers and giving talks; direct action, and each Midsummer's day Friends of the Cam celebrates of the rights of the river through a festival in Cambridge.
Friends of the Cam only collects donations at events it hosts and does not accept any funding from water companies, regulators, government or any other organisation which might compromise its independence. While it keeps its costs as low as possible, and small events are usually covered by donations by participants, the annual festival is more costly. Friends of the Cam is therefore fundraising to cover these fixed costs (eg local council administrative fee, insurance, sound engineers, publicity material).
