On 5th February 2016 daddy was diagnosed with terminal Cancer. Our family are lucky to have had the support of family and friends throughout this time, but we also received significant support from two charities.

Charis Cancer Care helped mummy and daddy come to terms with what they were facing, they received help with the practical aspects and also had some time to escape the reality of what they were dealing with.

Macmillan provided advice and support as required and on Monday 9th May daddy was admitted to the Macmillan Unit in Antrim where he remained until he passed away on Thursday 12th May. The nurses in this unit do not only care for the patient, they care for the entire family. As a family we were given the support, space and time that we needed to come to terms with what we were facing. They also ensured daddy's pain was managed and he was given the dignity he deserved.

It is not until you need these services that you realise how big a difference these charities can make!

As a way of thanks we have decided to fundraise throughout the next year to ensure other families can receive the same support when needed.

So far we have accepted donations in lieu of flowers, walked the Charis Cancer Walk in Lough Fea and we hope to cover a few more things before May 2017.

Lisa and Hannah Berryman will be running the Dublin Half Marathon on Saturday 24th September in memory of daddy and all proceeds will be donated to these charities.
