Story

I set up this fundraiser with help of others in our community to raise awareness and funds for Kit, a child of our community who has been struck with cancer.

I'm aware that the upcoming months are hard as many are struggling throughout this part of the season however, I'm trying to raise £500 or more for Kit.

All your donations through JustGiving are simple, fast and totally secure.

I would like to say on behalf of Kit's family a big thank you to you all for taking the time to read this and leave some help here.

Suzanne (mum) Story:

So at the start of August, Kit had his normally routine. He went horse riding in the morning, without any worries. In the afternoon, he was out playing in the village park with his friends.

His brother, Tait came in an told me Kit wasn't feeling well. When Kit got home, he was sick. We thought he had just caught a vomiting bug, usual kids stuff. He was ill for 4 days. He wouldn't keep water down. I had called the GP who assured it sounded like a normal sickness bug too.

By the Thursday morning I knew we'd be in all weekend so I went to the shops early to get some food for the weekend. Luckily when I got back, Kit met me in the kitchen. The whites of his eyes were yellow. I knew I needed to get him to the hospital. I packed him up, leaving Tait with Jonathan, my husband and went straight to A&E with Kit. They took him immediately, and tried to get anti sickness meds into him. Unfortunately these just made him sick again.

Kit was put on fluids and pain relief and kept in overnight, this was 7th August. We have been living in a hospital since then.

We were transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People the following day.

We had to wait almost a week to get an MRI under general anaesthetic. We were waiting in an Adult consultation returning from annual leave, as the mass was in an awkward position. They didn't know if it was attached to the stomach, it was certainly blocking his liver and crushing his small intestine. He returned 18th August, and that afternoon he was completing a biopsy retrieval operation. We were told the tests results could take 10 days.

2 days later Jonathan and I were taken into a small side room and told it was lymphoma cancer. Our world literally stopped. I don't remember much of that conversation.

They were struggling to isolate the type of cancer, but we were moved straight away to the Oncology ward. Kit was put on steroids to ease the stress on the liver. A week later we started our first chemo cycle.

Kit was diagnosed with Burkitt's type, B cell high grade lymphoma. He had a mix of 2 cancers. 2 aggressive, rare and fast growing cancers.

The treatment would need to be as aggressive to counteract the tumour.

Jonathan and Tait moved to the hospital to live with us for support. Along the way Kit has picked up fungal pneumonia, so many symptoms of the chemo and other viral infections. But throughout it all, every time he gets into recovery, his funny, witty and cheeky personality comes back.

We are hopeful of recovery, however we have had to completely scale back the work we can do. I am so grateful Kit didn't have to go through this without his parents by his side. But it has taken a massive financial toll on us. It will take a long time to get our business back, and even once home we know there will be monthly clinics for the foreseeable.

It's been a completely emotional roller-coaster, lurching from one cycle to the next, fighting whatever virus comes along with it. But throughout this Kit has been so resilient, and I am such a proud mum, to an total superhero.
