Story
This project has been a passion for the past 4 years when the school started in a tin hut with about 20 children , no facities, books , uniform etc etc. I am not getting any younger and would love this school to continue but it will need help of many sorts, mainly financial. It is run, in Kenya, by a British man and his partner who are close friends and who oversee everything so that I know ALL monies raised goes to the school with no admin costs etc. The village elders have allowed us use of the land for free so no rent to pay just 3 teachers wages to find each month, general maintenance, school books etc. All uniform comes from the uk and is secondhand donated by supporters as are shoes and non uniform clothes. We also feed the children once a day as for many this is the only meal they might get. We have been lucky so far to have been given access on occasion to a little spare space in a shipping container of one of our supporters so this means that sometimes we can ship things out free of charge. This , in the future, might change and we will need to hire ' container space' all the time which costs money. We have raised enough funds so far to dig a borehole, put on running water from that to the whole school site, we share the water with the village to help them as well, electricity is in situ and our tin hut is now brick classrooms with the last one now being completed. We have also installed 2 toilets with sinks etc.The site itself still floods in rainy season so that needs to be sorted, at a cost. Our three teachers are only paid a small amount of wages which we would like to increase so we can give them enough to live on. We would eventually like to put in some play equipment if funding allows. Dreams at the moment as our fundraising alone will not run to the cost of that. The school has its own F/b page..Doddington School Kenya.. Which you can ask to join to see what is going on in the uk and at the school itself.
