Don't have time to donate right now?
A week and a half into this terrible war in Ukraine, I saw a news report of two 18 year old men, boys really, taking off their civilian clothes and putting on military uniforms. With only a few hours of basic training they are now on the streets of Kyiv placing their bodies and their lives in the way of the oncoming attack from Russian troops. They were the same age as my son Levi. At that point I knew that just being upset and outraged wasn't enough so I came up with an idea.
The idea is simple. There is a desperate humanitarian crisis occurring on our doorstep and it is only 1200 miles away. I am able to access aid and medical supplies that are available in the UK. Unfortunately there are not enough drivers or vans to deliver it to where it is desperately needed in the border areas of Poland and on into the most deprived and war torn areas of Ukraine. I get vans and drivers to move it. Simple.
Within a couple of hours of sharing my thoughts with a few friends, I was contacted by James Stringfellow, owner of the Brighton Electric Recording Studio in Brighton. James offered to host a fundraising gig at his studio
As the project has moved forward, I have made connections with other volunteer teams in the South East as well as civillian aid networks operating inside Ukraine. We are information sharing to make this project work more quickly to deliver this urgently required aid.
My vans are loaded with non perishable food, sanitary products and medical supplies. These are being handed over to support teams at the border who are distributing the aid inside Ukraine to the areas of greatest need. The teams I have made connections with, document the distribution of aid with video and photographs so you are guaranteed that it will be delivered directly to where it is most urgently needed.
The rest is then up to you. I will continue to run vans down to the Ukrainian border as long as we have funding and they are needed. Your donations will only be used for aid and it's delivery. All the drivers will be covering their own expenses and giving their time free. Please give generously and if you can afford to, give more than once. When you're at work earning the money that you're going to donate, you're actually sitting in the van with us. We are just lucky enough to be able to give our time but we are nothing without you. Your donations are literally the lifeblood of the people who this aid is being delivered to. Not just the refugees but also those brave enough to have remained to fight and those unable to make the hard journey out.
Bless their souls, help us to help them.
I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Orange Vehicle and Motorhome Rental in Lewes who are providing me vans for these runs at cost. Amazing!
