I've raised £7000 to provide food, rent and teachers salaries for the Tanzanian school of Hill Crest, which will no longer be funded by its former charity.

Story

Located in the outskirts of Arusha, in Western Tanzanian, Hill Crest teaches 45 kids mathematics, English and hygiene. The school was founded by the director Elizabeth who was eager to provide a free education to the children who needed it the most and as public schools in Tanzania do not teach English this therefore limits the opportunities for the children growing up there. It is also not uncommon for children to leave school at the age of 5 years old in Tanzania with parents viewing it as more beneficial for the children to work rather than study.

This is why Hill Crest is more than just a school for the children, it not only provides an education and opportunities, but also offers parents extra support with meals and importantly encourages them to send their children to school. Hill Crest serves 1 bowl of porridge for breakfast and 1 lunch to all kids at school every day during the week. Meat, vegetables and fruits are more expensive to the local Tanzanians, and most families can rarely afford them so the school maintains an effort to serve at least 2 meals that include vegetables and meat per week. Some parents cannot even afford to feed their children on weekends, therefore Hill Crest opens their doors to these kids every Saturday. The children can stay and play as well, so the parents can have more time to do some more work.
