Story
Some of us are affected by disability or mental health problems, some of use have no idea except to say "wow" but most of us when we hear the stories we cant help but be touched.
Philakade means “long life clinic” and is the vision of Mary Anne Carpenter who, along with her husband Steven, have already set up a medical clinic in Durban which caters for 100 people a day and a HIV/AIDS hospice in Hillcrest. Mary Anne and Steven have dedicated their lives to helping the sick and needy in the Durban area. This residential home will provide high quality care for 100 people, and will cater for any adults, no matter what their situation, with long-lasting physical or psychiatric problems.
Today, 7 people will be medically discharged from the Armed Forces and their lives will change forever. Everyone supported by Help for Heroes has a unique Recovery journey.
Help for Heroes works alongside the new DNRC (Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre) to make sure everyone affected by their Service in the Armed Forces can either return to their military unit or begin a fulfilled and independent life as a Veteran.
Everything raised will be split 2:1, Help for Hero's:Philakade
Don't dig deep just give a little and get everyone you know do the same. You can be a hero!

6 years agoWeek 1 Well I haven't run, except for the bus, in a while and today the only thing that stopped me from standing still and counting it as exercise was both feet weren't on the ground. I use the word running in its loosest form, speed walking it is not, as, again the word speed would give the wrong impression of what I was doing. BUT I did it one foot forward, 3 half marathons to go. Give small but spread the word.

Slightly over weight, totally unprepared for the challenge but with a big heart, happy smile and total determination to succeed ..... well if I don't achieve the target I have a blond haired blue eyed boy who is waiting for my medals, not sure which is the more frightening :)
