Michael Andrew Thorne AKA "Birdie"

14th April 1971- 27th October 2025

On Monday October 27th 2025 the boy who never grew up, the man with the biggest heart, our Big Birdie sadly grew his wings.

It was a somewhat unexpected passing, and with no surviving family on the IOM, and with no funeral plan nor savings to cover expenses, we (myself, Richie, Steve, Kerrie, & PJ) are fundraising in order to give Birdie a fitting send-off.

Birdie lived life large and was much loved friend to so many; he was an utterly selfless human being, and is already greatly missed. As such we hope people are able to offer their support by way of donations in order to help cover the costs incurred - every little helps.

Birdie’s funeral (Celebration of life) will be held at 2pm on Friday 28th November at Douglas Crematorium, followed by a gathering at The Bridge Inn, Laxey.

Dress code: Smart/casual, with a bit of red in light of Birdie’s love of Liverpool Football Club.

As it was Birdie’s huge heart that gave way, we have chosen local charity, Craig’s Heart Strong Foundation, as the beneficiaries of any excess monies raised. Moreover, once fundraising for the funeral (Celebration of Life) is complete, Craig’s Heart Strong Foundation buckets will be placed in some of Birdie’s locals in order for fundraising to continue for this important cause, in Birdie’s name.
