Story
On 6th August, whilst out running, District L Fitness member Glenn Carrigan collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.
With a combination of life-saving CPR and the use of a defibrillator, paramedics were able to get his heart beating again, before transferring him to the Cumberland Infirmary, where he spent two days in an induced coma in intensive care.
Glenn wanted to raise money to buy a defibrillator for District L Fitness, so that if what happened to him happened to anyone else, they’d have the same chance of survival as he had.
A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. For every minute it takes for the defibrillator to reach someone and deliver a shock, their chances of survival reduce by up to 10%.
After a successful Lift-A-Thon event on Saturday 17th October 2020, we have managed to secure a defibrillator for outside the gym, however we would like to continuing fundraising to be able to buy as many defibrillators as possible for venues and areas around Cumbria.
