Story
We are hoping to raise £90,000 for a community project.
Swanage Croquet Club, with a membership of about 60, plays on the Swanage Primary School playing field where it provides, in curriculum, coaching to year 5 pupils, and fresh air, gentle exercise, and a sense of community for our members.
The club is perhaps the town's most successful and least well known sports club. This year the High Handicap team won the Southwest Federation League title for a second time, and the Low Handicap team is celebrating a remarkable national victory having lifted a major croquet trophy, the Federations' Shield, against one of the UK's elite teams, hot favourites Phyllis Court at Henley on Thames on 12th September 2026.
We are completely self funded, being one of the few Sports Clubs in Swanage not receiving any support from the local Council.
We have a second hand gazebo as our club house and use a composting toilet. We would like to buy a second hand caravan so that members and school children have somewhere warms and dry to shelter when needed. We would also like to replace our current equipment which is quite old. Croquet equipment is expensive, with a set of hoops alone costing £600 and a reasonable mallet for a child costing £300. A twin axle second hand caravan would cost about £7000.
