Our learning disabled swimmers love to compete. They are committed to their training and work to the best of their ability every week in the pool. The pinnacle of their hard work comes around every four years with the chance to swim at their own Olympics where ability is less important and being the best you can be is the focus.
Next year, seven of our wonderful members have been selected to go to Sheffield to race in the Special Olympic Summer Games 2017
This will be the fourth games we have attended - the last three games are engraved in our hearts and minds - with memories of medals and smiles and fellowship. The camaraderie at these events is unsurpassed. To attend and watch is a privilege - your face aches from smiling.
Sadly our swimmers have to fund themselves to attend, this is an annoying obstacle to overcome to get to the Games. Our support staff also have to fund themselves.
So that is why I am asking for some financial help to get our swimmers to Sheffield to go for gold! They aim high but are humble if they do not win as they swim with humility and respect for each other. They deserve the chance - help them get there!
