Story
Everybody loves these shining beacons of light at the festive time of year. They can be seen from miles around and are literally a guiding light when retuning home. The 'Switching On' event has become, amongst the residents of the villages (and further afield), a 'must do' in the run up to Christmas.
The Stars, however, have not faired well and have now broken after years of weathering and, sadly, have lit up the church tower for the last time.
A much more robust replacement set is now necessary to ensure that we have stars for many years to come. Provision of an all-metal design together with improved commercial lighting has been researched and agreed as being 'fit for purpose'.
Together with safety improvements to the tower, the cost has been estimated at c.£5,000. Whilst this sounds a lot, it actually works out at just £25 per household in Swepstone and Newton Burgoland.
Whilst grants may be available (these are being investigated) we would ask for your help to ensure that the Stars continue to be a welcome and much loved feature at Christmas. ANY donation you feel able to give would be most welcome and really appreciated.
We need your help. Please give generously!
