Weʼve raised £275 to help raise money for Sumner Malik.

Funded on Sunday, 15th January 2017

    Story

Sumner Malik goes to my school, Warninglid. He is a triplet and one of the most cheerful and helpful children I know. He has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). DIPG is a terminal, paediatric form of brain tumour. There are only 40 cases of DIPG diagnosed a year in the UK with no confirmed cure and a non-existent survival rate.

There is hope out there though with lots of doctors and hospitals around the world carrying out pioneering research into ways of treating this disease, with a few offering cutting edge treatments on compassionate grounds. These treatments though are unfortunately very expensive and every bit of help is needed to meet the costs. At the moment, the Malik family are trying to raise £80,000.

Everyone that knows Sumner has been raising money to go towards the family's fundraising total. This is my contribution.

My daughters and I will be doing the Boxing Day Swim in Tenby, Wales to raise funds for Sumner. This involves high-tailing it down the beach and plunging into the freezing waters of the Atlantic. Wetsuits will not be worn. Toes will be froze. Teeth will chatter. Body parts may turn blue.

We would really appreciate any donations to help Sumner. I've put a target of £200 but if we could exceed that, it would be amazing.

    Thanks.
    Ruth

We did it! We braved the cold weather, the low tide (it's a long run to the sea), the freezing water (it really was) and 700 other swimmers to complete our mission. Thanks to everyone who has donated. Your generosity has been overwhelming and means that Sumner is closer to his target. My justgiving page is open for a few more days so if anyone else wants to donate it will all be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Thank you once again.
