I've raised £500 to fund swim lessons for individuals in the UK that are from communities most at risk from drowning. Swim lessons save lives.

Story

Moved by the statistics we found, we have set out to fund swim lessons for persons from marginalised communities that are statistically at a higher risk of drowning, this will include those who cannot access school swimming lessons where their support needs cannot be met.

Access to water safety education and swim lessons reduces the risk of drowning (statistics say by as much as 88%). Communities should not be missing out because their support needs cannot be met, access is limited by provision and often because it is cost prohibitive to families. We want to bridge this gap, increase access and reduce the statistics surrounding drowning.

Did you know that autistic children are 160 times more likely to drown than their neurotypical peers? - this is just one of the statistics that stood out that we aim to change.

In addition to reducing the risk of accidental drowning, swimming is a sport that has the potential to be enjoyed by anyone of any age and ability. It can improve general health and fitness and boost confidence and self-esteem. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and enjoy the water safely.

The funding will pay for an initial 12 weeks of instruction, provide swimwear and goggles to those that require them. Travel to and from lessons may be awarded on a case by case basis.
