Weʼve raised £910 to support Swindon Spring Festival

Funded on Monday, 31st August 2020

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Last year, we spent months planning and curating a programme of more than 40 events for this year’s Swindon Spring Festival – of literature and the arts, 8th – 17th May 2020.

    See last year’s here

We booked authors and performers, printed a full-colour programme, got excited, and launched it, like this

Then, along came that nasty little virus, COVID-19 and with it, social-distancing.

As a result, and for the good of the nation, all live events in May had to be cancelled.

But, at Lower Shaw Farm, the Swindon Spring Festival’s HQ, we are not keen on cancellations. We like things to happen, not not happen.

So, we got thinking, got busy, and proceeded to do all we could to salvage something from the Festival, for ourselves, for our authors, for our performers, and for Festival followers everywhere!

We reconfigured the big live Festival into smaller virtual one, contacting authors and performers, and recording talks, discussions, and performances with them, to create a series of virtual events for Festival followers and anyone else in May.

We have decided not to make a fixed charge to anyone who wants to see, hear, and enjoy anything at our mini virtual Festival.

But this means that, even though we have still had lots of outgoings, we have no ticket income to help keep the Festival going.

We now rely on the goodwill of sponsors and your generosity to help secure the future of our much-loved Swindon Spring Festival – of literature and the arts.

We understand that many people’s coffers may be running low but if you can help, please do.

    Thank you

    Matt Holland

    Swindon Spring Festival Organiser.

Fantastic festival - we have loved listening to the authors at our leisure. Some great books and several bought: A Saint in Swindon and Mrs A’s Indian Gentleman for the true Swindonians in the family.
