    Story

In Memory of Christopher George Cox 'The Silent Mountain’ - a loving son and brother and a great friend to many. www.facebook.com/chriscoxmemorialfund/

Chris Cox died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of just 29 four days after Christmas day 2015. Chris, a fit, active and healthy young man collapsed at home on Tuesday 29th December and was rushed to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro by Air Ambulance. However, tragically they could not save him. Doctors have classified his death as “Sudden Adult Death Syndrome” (SADS), a condition which according to the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) claims around 12 young lives a week.

Chris started gig rowing, a popular Cornish sport, as an under 14 at Mount’s Bay Pilot Gig Club, competing in junior then adult races throughout Cornwall. He later joined the Pendeen Pilot Gig Club Crew, notably taking part in the crew that won the 28 mile Eddystone Challenge. He rowed for over 10 years in The Isles of Scilly World Pilot Gig Rowing Championships.

Chris’s other sporting passion was basketball, playing for numerous local teams in Cornwall. He played for the Penwith Panthers, Penryn Rebels and Camborne Prodigies and was known for his unstoppable hook shot.

Chris was also a nationally renowned gamer, twice reaching the final of the Nintendo Britain's Best Gamer competition in 2009 and 2010. Chris lived his life to the full and was admired and respected by many.

Chris’s brother Thomas Cox has set up this Just Giving page which will help towards the official memorial fund – The Chris Cox Memorial Fundraising Group with the primary aim to finance the building of a new hand crafted Cornish pilot gig in Chris’s memory. We will name this boat the ‘Silent Mountain’ (as Chris was known) and it will be used and enjoyed in the local community, whilst also raising money for SADS charities through events.

Donations to this Just Giving cause will be gratefully received and we thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Though we didn't officially meet, I'm sure we crossed paths many times at the local car boot in pursuit of games, a passion we shared. The N-Europe community will never be the same without you Chris.
