At Brixton Library each month a group of black gay men gather to attend ‘Black Gay Ink’; writers’ group.

Since the group started in February 2017, they have created a safe space where they can discuss, debate and express their issues, challenges, joys, and triumphs unapologetically through writing. They have also hosted two events:

An event using playwriting about black gay relationships-21/02/2018

The group was established because, “it’s the kind of group we wanted to see more of”. We can’t complain about what’s not there for black gay men, if we don’t do something about it right?”

Black Gay Ink was set up to contribute to the creation of platforms and spaces for black gay men to record, document, and perform their stories, their issues, and their interests.

“We are living at a time of tremendous societal change for the LGBTQ communities. But there are still too few UK role models, and too few art works or writings from a black gay perspective.

Black Gay Ink is about being part of the change, about black gay men having a voice, having a presence, and shining a light for black gay men to come.
