I've raised £150 to help FRIEND Animal Sanctuary continue their incredible work

I'll be running RunThrough's "Chase The Moon" 5K event at Olympic Park on 14th March 2018 to raise money for F.R.I.E.N.D Animal Sanctuary in Kent.
I loathe exercise. More than the average person. But after wrestling with a nasty gastro illness last summer that put me in hospital, I've decided that 2018 is the year I start prioritising my health. I've since adopted a vegan lifestyle, and made a commitment to get into the best physical shape possible by the the time I turn 25 in Nov. And yepp, that means exercise.
So, with the support of some seriously fit friends, I've decided to take up running. And turns out, between the gut busting and lung bursting - I actually kind of love it! But it's also suddenly dawned on me that this transition is so much bigger than me, and my journey. Veganism has seriously opened my eyes to the many ways we're destroying and damaging our environment. From palm oil to plastic, meat production to food waste, our daily and often unconscious decisions are causing significant harm to both our health and our habitat.
As part of this personal epiphany of mine, I've decided to do what I can to try and stop it. Even if that means putting myself through a gruelling physical and mental regime. I'm going to commit to competing in one running event every month until December 2018. Whether it's a 10K or a Tough Mudder, I'm going to smart small but train hard and strive towards both raising awareness and raising funds.
For every challenge I'll be raising money for a different charity and cause, but all in the aim of conserving our environment and saving the animals that reside within it. I'm asking you to join me on this mission. If you don't feel moved to, well.. MOVE yourself, by dropping a little money in the pot, you'll know you're still contributing to a good cause and doing your part. So no matter how small your donation, I'm sincerely grateful and want to thank you for being a part of the movement. Let's never stop having these conversations and together keep striving for change! One step (or mile) at a time.
Upon visiting F.R.I.E.N.D Animal Sanctuary, I was seriously struck and humbled by the undeterred devotion and hard work of the regular volunteers. Relying on public donations alone, the group have grafted endlessly, building a warm, welcoming, safe and secure home for a wide array of animals that otherwise, would have been sent to slaughter.
Come rain, shine or snow, the sanctuary's volunteers work around the clock to ensure that everyone from the pigs and goats to geese and cows are cared for, covering veterinary bills, food and general maintenance costs. I've seen first-hand the exceptional way the animals are looked after and the first-class conditions they are kept in. Raising money for the sanctuary will ensure they have the supplies and support they need to keep providing for these animals, so please donate!
