Story
My name is Talvin Rana and I have been given another opportunity to be part of a community project, to help build a School in Ayensuako, Ghana.
In February 2016, myself and other team members of 282 Squadron Air Cadets, travelled to the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India, to refurbish and re-build a school. The project was a huge success and fueled my passion to take part in more charity and community work, helping those who are less fortunate.
This October myself, 11 other Cadets and 6 staff members of my Squadron, are going on a 2-week expedition to Ghana to execute a community project; 263 million of the world’s children are out of education and one third of these children live in Central and West Africa.
The project will involve working part of a team to build the school from scratch, including constructing the foundations and conducting other building work, such as bricklaying, with the help and guidance of qualified builders and carpenters. Once the building is constructed, we will work on furnishing the interior as well as decorating the outside, thereby providing the children with a stimulating learning environment. The team will have the opportunity to engage with the local culture and the local villagers.
As a team we have all carried out various fundraising methods such as Bag Packs in supermarkets, applying for grants, hosting Quiz nights and also organizing car washes
Thank you
