Story

We are raising funds towards the running costs of Endike Community Care Association in Orchard Park Estate, Hull, which provides care 7 days a week to elderly people with and without Dementia including my mam, Anne, who lives alone and has suffered with Alzheimer’s since her late 50s. The centre faces potential closure after the decision to cut funding by Hull City Council. It is the only place providing this type of service in the entire city.

Endike was established in 1992 and over the years became a vital day care service for elderly people largely suffering from Dementia, yet council funding has decreased each year until being cut completely in July 2023. The centre is now fighting to have funding reinstated and backdated to meet its essential outgoings. Endike has attempted to work with Hull City Council to increase number of attendees and reduce outgoing costs, yet it has repeatedly met barriers in doing so despite its best efforts. We are determined to support them in continuing to provide the essential care in one of the most deprived areas of the city.

As the daughter and primary carer of one of the centre’s attendees, I can vouch not only for the quality of care provided, but also for the sheer lack of similar services in Hull. It has changed my mam’s life beyond recognition, and without it, she and dozens of elderly people risk becoming isolated in the community.

As well as the day care centre, which provides daily food, personal care, social engagement and activities for around 52 elderly attendees weekly, the site also hosts numerous other charities and organisations that provide services for children outside of mainstream education, adults with learning disabilities, and a dance academy that provides children with food during school holidays. If Endike is to close, these organisations and charities will also lose their homes, taking them away from an area of the city where they are so desperately needed.

Endike is seeking a long-term solution to the funding issue, and any funds raised will help give them time to do so

Any and all donations are so hugely appreciated
