Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
At Bonhams auction house in 2012 the last remaining papers of Howard Carter were sold for £109,250.
This made me very sad, especially as I later discovered that the collection was broken up and sold on to individual collectors.
The Griffith institute in Oxford has a large collection of Howard Carter's papers, photographs, drawings, journals and diaries pertaining to the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun. I had initially wanted to donate any Carter memorabilia I bought to this Institute but they indicated they were not interested in acquiring them. So I plan to set up my own website and in due course to perhaps open a small gallery to display the items.
Unfortunately, I am not in a financial position to buy them. These papers individually are all very well, but put them together, and like a jigsaw puzzle they will tell you the story of this remarkable man's extraordinary life.
I love history, but social history is what interests me the most. Reading diaries, letters, or journals bring the past back to life and for one tiny moment you can believe you're there.
If I could win the Euro Millions jackpot I would embark on my quest to track down all Carter's former possessions, but until then I have started a Just Giving campaign to raise £100,000.
