Story

Help me raise £1,000 for the Mayor of Redbridge's Appeal.

I've set myself a goal of raising £1,000 for the Mayor of Redbridge's chosen causes for 2026/27— supporting three wonderful organisations.

You can read more about the appeal at: Cllr Bert Jones, Mayor of Redbridge 2026/27 Municipal Year.

So, what am I doing?

As a Freeman of the City of London, on Sunday 27 September 2026 I'll be taking part in one of the City's most unusual and historic traditions — the annual Woolmen Sheep Drive across Southwark Bridge.

The tradition celebrates the ancient right of Freemen of the City of London to drive sheep across the Thames to market without paying a toll.

These days, thankfully, I don't have to make my living herding sheep through the City! Instead, I'm going to use the occasion to try to raise some money for three very worthwhile causes.

🐑 My Sheep Drive will take place between 10:45 am and 11:15 am on Sunday 27 September.

If you're in London that morning, you're very welcome to come along, watch and cheer me on as I attempt to persuade a flock of sheep to accompany me across Southwark Bridge!

The Sheep Drive forms part of the wider Woolmen Sheep Drive & Livery Fair, with the public Livery Fair taking place around Queen Street and Queen Street Place in the City.

Can you help me reach £1,000?

Whether it's £5, £10, £20 or more, every contribution will help me towards my £1,000 target and, more importantly, support the valuable work of the Mayor of Redbridge's three chosen charities.

And if you're unable to donate, sharing this page with friends, family and colleagues would be just as appreciated.

Thank you for your support — and hopefully I'll see some of you by Southwark Bridge on 27 September! 🐑
