Story
We are three student nurses studying at the University of Cumbria. As part of our course we have a two week enrichment period where we can choose to experience nursing and healthcare somewhere away from our regular placements. This time is designed to supplement our learning and give us an insight into an area we would not see otherwise.
We had the opportunity to choose to spend our time with different disciplines of nursing or even choose to visit trusts other than the Cumbrian ones we are used to. Despite this we have decided what we really want to do is experience what health care can be like away from our valued National Health Service here in the UK. We chose a less privileged hospital in Tanzania where supplies and equipment are scarce and healthcare is not what we are used to.
We will be travelling with Work The World to Arusha in Tanzania where we hope to broaden our horizons and see what the reality of healthcare can be for others in this world as well as help where we can.
This will be invaluable to our learning and although its miles away from home, what we gain from this experience can be brought back here to the UK and used to help shape us into the nurses we aspire to be.
Any contributions you could give will be extremely appreciated! As students we understand that not everyone can always afford to part with their money but a share on social media would be just as good!
Because we are Nurses, naturally we are also wanting to help the hospital in anyway we can. We were hoping that any extra funds would be given to the hospital along with as many supplies as we can take with us.
Thank you all for your support!
