Story
Challenging MND
I've known Alex Gibson since 2004 we started off as training partners competing in Decathlons, however our common bond is a lifestyle of health and fitness and a determined outlook no matter how hard the challenges that we faced as athletes. Alex a former international decathlete epitomises health and fitness, dedicating himself 100% to a clean lifestyle.
After we hung up our spikes, we started annual challenges which included canyoning, gorge walking, potholing, hiking, biking, bungee jumping, zip wires, etc. We under took crazy challenges such as attacking the Welsh 3000 with a days driving and no sleep starting at 1.30am in the morning to 24 peaks in 24 hours in the Lake District. Tough but fun times, you really find out who you are in those circumstances.
Sadly a couple of years ago Alex was diagnosed with MND, a bombshell to all those who know him. Given the harsh deterioration that the disease causes, his incredible mind set is a testament to his positive outlook and taking on this awful disease head-on. Alex has since organised and completed numerous challenges from charity rugby matches, cycling to walking over 100 miles in 3 days - an absolute inspiration!
Here's a link to a radio interview that Alex took part in to promote his charity and explain MND: Radio Interview
I hope that you agree with the cause to help others to give them inspiration to make the most of their time and not let life defeat you!. This is what Alex wants to do and has a set up a charity to do exactly this.
Many thanks in advance for your kind generosity

5 years agoSince my last update I've put in 52 miles, 92.5 miles, 89 miles, 109 miles and today I did 64 miles as a start to tamper off for the challenge in two weeks time! It's been tough, the 109 miles I did was on the hottest day of the year and felt the effects through mild heat stroke. Over the last couple of weeks I've also started to use a spin bike to supplement my training building my sessions from 45mins to 90mins twice a week. Thanks a lot for all of your support guys, much appreciated!
