Story
Our little baby, Nina Aurora was sadly born sleeping on 23.12.23 while I was 5 months pregnant.
Our whole journey throughout the pregnancy was traumatic, but during that time, we experienced superb care from the Maternity team at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex.
My husband and I spent 5 days on the Chamberlen Ward in the Star Room, a special room dedicated to bereaved parents who are experiencing the loss of their baby / babies.
Our time in the Star Room was invaluable to us. We were given the most precious gift, - time with our daughter. This was thanks to the Cold/Cuddle Cot which had been kindly donated, alongside various other amenities. The majority of items in the room are donated or given from various charities.
We would really love to raise some money for the Star Room, so that new items and equipment can be provided for other bereaved parents who will sadly find themselves in need of this room. To help further our cause we’ll be doing a 10K walk from Watton-at-Stone to Burn's Green on 9th March 2024.
We extend our most heartfelt thanks to the Midwives and staff at PAH who helped us, comforted us and most of all, made such a special effort to treat and care for Nina for who she was, - our baby. It was truly special.
In the UK 10-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage (although it’s probably more, as the official number is not actually known), and 1 in 200 babies are stillborn. It was a surprise for us to learn, that many hospitals in the UK do not have the same support practices in place, and that not all units have access to a bereavement midwife. For this we urge you to visit the Tommy’s website to find out more and help make this change: https://www.tommys.org/donate/support-now?
Thank you for your support x
