Neil served in the British Army for 20 years prior to a medical discharge in 2017 for Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) & Psychogenic Non Epileptic Seizures (PNES).
During a tour in PB Ouellette, Afghanistan in 2013 Neil was involved in numerous IDF attacks one of which lead to him being thrown several metres from the impact of the blast. Instantly he had ringing in his ears & felt disoriented. Months after returning home he was seen by an audiologist who diagnosed him with tinnitus & blast scarring in his ears.
Neil had an MRI scan which was deemed to be clear & he received intermittent treatment for PTSD.
Neil suffered his 1st seizure in 2016, he was seen by DCMH Tidworth & diagnosed by a neurologist with PNES. He was told this was due to PTSD.
We started researching PNES. During our reading Trauma Brain Injury (TBI) appeared. When we queried this with MOD we were told that as he was never unconscious it would be impossible for him to have a TBI.
Neil's had various treatments over the last 6 years via the MOD & NHS. Why are the seizures still occurring? There must be more to it. We've tried every form of treatment for PTSD that is currently available to military veterans.
Recently we read an article in The Mirror where Specialist Trauma Psychotherapist Mandy Bostwick was interviewed.
Please listen to her podcasts https://youtu.be/bydnMiavZi0 She has spent years gathering knowledge, evidence & science to prove the existence of Blast Trauma Brain Injuries. She believes that Neil could have BTBI.
There are facilities with detailed MEG scans and specialised consultants who can read them. Neil has been offered the initial assessments. This is not currently available on the NHS.
We are reaching out to help us raise £3000 (£5000 if possible)
Not only so Neil gets a diagnosis but for myself and our daughters as the impact of his illness resonates through us all as a family. TREATMENT IS UNIQUE TO THE INDIVIDUAL AND AT AN EXTRA COST WHICH IS AROUND £2000.
