Weʼve raised £1,820 to Re-build a home for a family in Nepal

    Story

As many of you know I have been helping my good friend of many years, Paul Campbell, along with the rest of the team at the Campbells Foundation, to re-build an earthquake effected remote village in Nepal.

I have committed myself to a daunting challenge - well it is a daunting challenge for me.

On May the 25th I am going to walk for at least 3 days from Kathmandu to Thangpalkot1, the village I support.

I want to see for myself the work that has been done here in Nepal, so far and in particular raise enough money to re-build at least one home for Kadak Tamang and his family.

To do this challenge I have had to make a personal sacrifice to get fit in time - I'm doing really well but I can't say it is easy.

Would you be prepared to help me by motivating me and donating towards this Nepalese family home? Thank you.

It's easy enough, just click on the donate button and give as much as you think is fair.

These families have been desperately struggling with these living conditions since April 2015.

You can read and watch more about it here...

    Our Story So Far?

Nepal had two earthquakes in April 2015. The first with a magnitude of 7.8Mw happened at 11.56 on Saturday 25th April when fortunately most people were out. Unfortunately, there were a few older people and young children at home.

Many people died along with their animals and stored crops.

A second earthquake came in a day later and just about finished the rest of the buildings off. Thangpalkot1 was cut off for weeks from the rest of the world along with all the other villages in this district – the more you get involved, the more stories you will hear.

The district of Sindapulchowk has still received very little assistance from their own government being so very far away from Kathmandu – in my opinion, they have very much been forgotten.

Paul and Will went to Thangpalkot1 by chance in December 2015 and spent Christmas there – they experienced the devastation the earthquake had caused and watched the first home being rebuilt.

Paul and Jamie then went back in December 2016 and built some more homes, bought the school some new desks and a water tank.

Orchard Print provided all of the shirts, hoodies and hats as you will see in many of the pictures and videos.

Since then Paul and his team have been back many times since to re-build even more homes and provide extra resources for the local school too.

It only costs £1800 to purchase and transport enough materials to get one property built. The villagers fund their own labour, create their own hard core and get sand from the river.

It takes these trucks 6 hours or so to even reach these remote villages - off road.

Paul explains it like this ‘Imagine the community you live in and all the homes collapse. Now whether you own the home or you have a loan on it, it is not insured. You don’t have a lot but you’re happy. You gather what you can from the rubble of your home and you make a temporary shack. You sit there and have no choice but to wait for the universe to supply a solution. You have the resources and the community to rebuild but you just do not have the funds to get materials to the village – the nearest supplier is 6 hours away by truck!’

As in all society we have the very poor and vulnerable, through no fault of their own, the lazy, the motivated and the leaders. We have all these too in Thangpalkot1 and we have a method to protect everyone from favouritism and corruption, hence, you will see the agreements being explained and signed for. Every penny you raise will go straight to these families and not spent on management fees or expenses.

One man told Paul and Will that when they turned up he thought they were going to bring a bag of rice – little did he know Paul and Will had been watching him all over that Christmas and they were coming back.

The team and I at Orchard Print want to continue on this journey to help re-build Thangpalkot1, one home at a time.

The Nepalese don’t need changing they just need a roof over their head.

We’ll suggest some other solutions to help as and when the time is right.

Thank you so much for taking interest in this rewarding project.

Thank you for your donation and encouragement.
