What are we raising money for?

In September 2016, Harlie’s parents, Natalie & Rick, found a lump in her tummy. Worrying about what it might be, they took her to be checked out and were given the heart-breaking news that it was cancer. She was taken to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and admitted to Ward 84, the children's cancer ward. The nurses and consultants here provided amazing care and support to Harlie and her parents and made this awful news easier to bear. 3 months later Harlie rang the end of treatment bell and they looked forward to resuming a normal life. Unfortunately, following a check up, they were devastated to find that Harlie had relapsed and there were now 3 tumours in her lung. They decided to embark on a lengthy treatment process, involving lots of time for Natalie at the hospital and away from her other two girls at home. However the future is optimistic! Without the fast action of the staff on ward 84, Harlie might not be with us now. Her consultant, Dr Brennan, heads research in to all types of children’s cancers and without this vital research Harlie would have had less then 50% chance of a cure. Thanks to Dr Brennan she now has an 80% chance! Ward 84 is the families safe place, the care received is fantastic and the compassion shown is invaluable. We want to raise money for ward 84 to show our thanks for the fantastic work they do every day, keeping the children and their families smiling through the most testing of times and to keep it a safe, happy environment. We also want to help fund further research in to cancer so that more children can be saved from this dreadful disease.
