My names Daniel Kerley, I am raising awareness and funds in my Dads memory. Hopefully some of the money raised and awareness will help others who find themselves in the same position one day. Here's my story;

On 27th July 2014 I lost my Dad to Lung Cancer after a 13-month battle. He was only 55 years old and a non-smoker, so as you can imagine there’s no real explanation as to why this happened although the coroner said he had been "dealt a bad card". He passed away at our local Hospice but was continually supported, as were we all by Macmillan.

And proving just how cruel life can truly be, my Mum had the results back of a biopsy she had done on a lump/spot she has had on her nose for 6 weeks and was diagnosed with skin cancer. Luckily she has had the cancer removed and is fighting fit (fingers crossed), but this just makes what I'm doing even more important now.

My Dad for example was a 55-year-old fit, healthy non-smoker who was cruelly taken by lung cancer. This just highlights how unforgiving and unexplainable cancer can be. I like many others never thought I would have any experience of Cancer but little did I know how common it was. Three years ago my Uncle also died of the same disease, so when my Dad was diagnosed in June 2013 I couldn’t believe it. He was given 10 months by the consultant but managed to bravely fight it bravely for 13 months.

Nothing can ever replace the hole left by my Dad, but what I want to do and my way of coping with it is to continue to fight, raise awareness and money, because one day I hope we find a cure for this evil disease, because it can’t continue to take people from us like this in such a devastating way.
