Story

Canicross team to RuntheBases...and the odd mountain!

Who are we? ___We're a pack of 4 humans & their athletic pups who've teamed-up to tackle the Snowdonia Quarter Ultra Marathon in June 2018.

Why? ___We love running with our dogs and we want to use our passion for Canicross and sport in general to promote healthy competition and co-existence in the wider community. We feel that in the current social climate and the 'era' of #MeToo, teaching life skills, inclusion and gender equality to kids is bound to be one of the best ways to bring about meaningful change.

What are we doing it for? ___We feel that RuntheBases has come up with a beautiful way of empowering children in confronting gender inequality and promoting inclusion through sport. That's why we want sponsors to help us support and give exposure to this young and dynamic Community Organisation striving for positive change.

The more we can spread the word about their inspiring work, the greater the impact they can have in bringing about a positive change to gender-based stereotypes. Even if you can't commit to financial support at this time, please do read about their mission and share their good work with others on social media. Their incredible initiative and hard work really deserve to be publicised as much as possible!

What's our contribution?___ Well, we're going to run & sweat our way through an 'Ultra' Marathon (for the uninitiated, an ultra is any distance over the marathon distance of 26 miles/42.2km). Our task is brutally simple: To run non-stop as a relay team along the 50 mile route from the West coast of Wales, through the Snowdonia National Park, over Mount Snowdon to the North coast of Wales...on the way we'll scale the relentless 3,329 ft ascent to the summit of Mount Snowdon and hobble across the undulating Snowdonia National Park. Click here to see the route!

What's Canicross? ___It's essentially off-road running with your dog. It's a fun, social, healthy and safe way to enjoy running with your dog. We use specially designed equipment that allows us to run hands-free with our pups leading the way. We train regularly with them, building up stamina and endurance...but mostly just having fun together! We've all been practicing the sport for a number of years now and are careful to always place our canine partners' wellbeing at the center of everything we do. If our running mate doesn't seem up to the task on any given day or we sense the slightest abnormality in their demeanor during the run, we'll stop, take a break and evaluate the situation. If unsure, we'll always err on the side of caution and call it a day.

Meet our canine teammates!

Hi I'm Yempski, I've not lived with my hoomans for long so I get very worried sometimes and rip things up. My hobbies are annoying my big brother Kota and running with my Mum - she says I'm a natural.

Hi I’m Megan and I love to run. Along with tennis balls and rolling in anything smelly - it’s in my top 3! I got my human Mum into running -so you could say I’m somewhat of a canine inspiration!

What’s up Lads?! My names Banjo and I rescued my hooman a couple of years back...no biggy. Being orphaned and brought up on the streets I thought it was about time to do something with my life. Now I drag my hooman up big hills, I don’t like waiting around when you can go go go!!.

That Banjo might think he’s the muscle of the group but I’m most definitely the brains, my names Buddy and I’m the Canicross Master, I’ve taught that pup all he knows, he thinks he can push me around but I still hold all the PB records over 5k and 10k distances.

Please help us make this challenge a success: sponsor our team today!
