Weʼve raised £2,200 to help fund research into Motor Neuron Disease

Funded on Sunday, 16th February 2020

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Doddie Weir OBE is a Scottish and British & Irish Lions rugby legend. In 2017 at age 47, he announced that he had Motor Neuron Disease (MND). To date, there’s no single test to confirm diagnoses, nor any cure for this terminal illness.

Doddie’s foundation (MyName5Doddie) has made its mission to help others with the condition. Therefore, to support my fellow Scottish Borderer - despite playing rugby for Melrose rather than my hometown of Galashiels - I’ve signed up to do a 10k (6 mile /200 length) swim on Sunday 10th November at the Olympic Pool in Stratford, east London.

I have always enjoyed swimming, but, unlike my Dad who was an International water polo player, I have never been a club or competitive swimmer and have never entered a sporting event of this kind. So you could say I am “peeing my breeks” for the challenge ahead, although not in the pool…obviously!

With your help and donations, we’ll fund further research into MND and help those with the condition to live as fulfilled a life as possible. So if you can, please contribute to the MyNameDoddie5 foundation’s amazing work and sponsor me, ‘Team Tracey D’.

Great to meet Doddie and his wife Kathy at Gala pool. Thank you everyone who helped raise so much for a very important cause.
