Story

Winter is here with a vengeance. Our special needs guinea pigs need to be kept warm in their accommodation and this is where we need your help.

As trustees of a registered animal charity, we cover all costs, with the exception of veterinary bills, ourselves. Any donations we receive go directly to cover the cost of veterinary treatment. We cover the food, veggies, hay, bedding and transport costs from our own pockets. We have no other choice but to do this.

Throughout the winter months, we have to heat our sheds, to ensure the welfare and health of our animals. TEAS is spread over two sites, with a guinea pig shed at each location. The cost of heating impacts greatly on our finances, particularly now that energy prices are on the rise again. Now that the temperatures have dropped significantly, we find we are needing to heat the sheds around the clock, which has doubled the daily total to approximately £3 per day, per site. We will be looking at having to find approximately £100 extra per month, per site.

Our guinea pigs have a variety of issues, from dental, thyroid, respiratory, absorption. We also have a number of 'lethal gene' pigs, meaning they are deaf and blind. They are of a more delicate nature, with compromised health, which is why maintaining a steady temperature is vital for them.

We would be most grateful for your help in keeping our special guinea pigs warm, cosy and well this winter. Our supporters are always so generous; something we are thankful for. Should we exceed our target, or have any funds left over after paying for heating, any remaining money would go towards veterinary fees.

Thank you.
