Story
Hi! We are Chris and Laura, creators and co-directors of Technicolour State of Mind. We've been working on this short film since 2023 and are so excited to embark on the next stage of bringing this script to life. We have an amazing crew, the perfect locations and a fantastic cast. We just need your help towards some of the final production costs. We'd be so grateful for any donations and we cannot wait to share what we've been working on with you.
The story follows Joe, a man in his mid-twenties who is drifting through life, listless and apathetic. Things change when Tilly, the new girl at work, gives Joe some advice that changes his perspective. Joe starts seeing everyday moments in his life through the lenses of classic film genres. His stolen bike becomes a Film Noir mystery, his run in with a shoplifter becomes a Western Mexican standoff, and Tilly? She becomes the quirky rom-com love interest. But can Joe learn to see the magic in the everyday without becoming lost in it.
The film is comedic and light-hearted but it also holds an important message for us. At the start, Joe has been worn down by circumstances we've all encountered. Social media promoting other people’s successes whilst filtering out the struggles and downtime. Hustle culture tying up self-worth with productivity. Consumerism encouraging us to measure ourselves by the material goods we can afford. Societal messaging that your twenties should be spent travelling and partying yet simultaneously building a career and planning for a stable future. In the face of all this, it is easy to feel inadequate. We go through the motions, get swept along in the humdrum, and forget to enjoy the simple pleasures of our sweet existence. We hope this film will be a reminder to actively romanticise your life. Joe learns to appreciate just how wonderful the life he leads is and we hope this is something our audiences will take away too.
As a special thank you for supporting us, everyone who donates £25 or more will receive executive producer credits in our film. Donations of £50 or more will receive executive producer credits as well as a signed copy of the script. We are so grateful for any help towards getting this film through production and onto the big screen. Every donation is helping us bring our dream to life. Thank you!
