Story

The Ted Wragg Trust works with over 7000 children across Devon. The Trust’s ambition is to raise young people’s aspirations to enable them to become fulfilled, life-ready, confident and motivated. Our schools suffer high levels of disadvantage, with above average Special Educational Need (4% at some schools).

The help we need

We are really concerned that our most vulnerable pupils lack devices to get online and will fall behind with learning and digital social interaction during the COVID-19 outbreak. Although the Government has recognised the importance of digital learning and has pledged some support for students at a critical stage close to exams. We want to ensure we can extend this provision to ALL students who would benefit. There are 200 pupils without digital learning devices in Exeter alone. International research has proven that pupils lose 25% of the knowledge gained in the previous academic year, over the summer period alone.

This project is about minimising the loss, particularly for vulnerable students who lack IT equipment and facilities. Failure to engage with these pupils during COVID-19 closures will inevitably widen the educational gap with better-off peers. With support we can look at providing chromebooks (around £200 each), to mirror what we can do for others.

The COVID-19 pandemic will not be felt equally by all our pupils, those that cannot access remote learning will be negatively impacted, and irreversibly so. Please help us provide our disadvantaged children with laptops to ensure they continue to receive the very best education they need and deserve. Moira Marder, Chief Executive Officer of the Ted Wragg Trust.

The learning experience and impact

With the help of our partners and communities, we will be able to increase our reach. We are already working hard to develop educational content and are actively communicating with most students. This is a necessity and something we desperately need to extend. With your help we can get more vulnerable students online helping them to access learning and importantly interact with teachers and their school community.

The Trust is confident that we can make a real difference and would appreciate contributions of any size. We are incredibly proud of our reputation and our drive to improve education for all children, no matter what their starting point or background.

Please support us with this mission in these unprecedented times.
