Story
This year I am again taking on the C4P challenge to support Geoff and his chosen charities. It's a challenging 3 day cycle covering 174 miles and over 13000ft of climbing.
As an engineer, a cyclist and someone who loves getting outdoors, Geoff's story really hits home for me and this cause is one that is close to my heart.

Geoff Proffitt has worked as a Chartered Senior Engineer in the Jacobs 'Structures' team, in Northallerton, since November 2010. He has helped to deliver the Partnership contract with North Yorkshire County Council, for whom he worked for 27 years.
Geoff, a keen cyclist and active rider in the Hambleton Road Club, was involved in a mountain bike accident on the North York Moors, on 24th Nov 2012. He was descending one of the moor tracks when he fell, sustaining damage to his spine, leaving him with no feeling or movement from the neck downwards. Geoff received assistance from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Services, Yorkshire Ambulance and was airlifted to hospital by RAF Sea King after his accident. He spent about a year recovering in James Cook University Hospital's Spinal Injuries Ward who, together with Spinal Injuries UK and other charities such as Aspire, continue to support him since his return home.
Geoff returned to work with Jacobs in 2014 and he now works part time, based at home.
Cycling for Proffitt was started by some of his Jacobs work collegues, to help Geoff and his family with some of the financial burdens following his accident. In the first year of the event, the money raised went directly to Geoff, to assist him with some of the necessary alterations to his home. In the following year's, Geoff wanted any money raised by the cycling event to be donated to some of the charities that supported him, both then and now. 'Cycling for Proffitt' continues to raise money through generous donations and sponsorship of riders that take on the challenge each year, but always needs your help. Your donations are always appreciated.
The three key charities are:
- Spinal Injuries Association
- Cleveland Mountain Rescue
- James Cook Hospital - Spinal Injuries Unit
Please support me and get behind this amazing cause. Every little bit will help.
Thank you!
