    Story

We are looking to build an artificial running track around our school field by the summer of 2019. The idea of the running track is that the children will be able to use the field all year around in order to complete their daily mile. The daily mile is initiative whereby all children walk, jog or run a mile every day that they are in school. This is aimed at improving the overall health and fitness of all of the children within our school and contribute towards the 60 active minutes that they should be taking part in every day. Once the running track has been installed we are then hoping to begin a Tenbury Primary running club for staff and pupils alike to continue to promote healthy active lifestyles within our whole school community. Once the running club is up and running, then we will be looking at options for the pupils to run in events locally such as the Ludlow weekly park run. There is also the potential that the track could be used by members of the community in the future as well.

To begin raising money for the track I’m very glad to announce that Tenbury Primary Academy are going to be joining in the spirit of the rejuvenated local 10km race that is happening in the town on Sunday the 5th August.

Every child in school is either going to contribute towards running 10km or is actually going to run the full race distance! Our Polar Bears, Toucans and Peacocks are all going to complete a 400m lap of the school each, which will total 10km as individual classes. Our Parrots and Geckos will run a lap a day in teams of 5, so that each team will have run the entire 10km over the course of the week. Whilst our Chipmunks and Hedgehogs will be running 5 laps each, each day over the course of a week therefore completing the full 10km race distance! The children will be completing their 10km throughout the week beginning the 9th July.

As well as the children running the staff are also involved. We currently have four members of staff entered for the Tenbury 10km event on Sunday 5th August. Mr Griffiths, Mr Bell, Miss Jackson and Miss Hughes will all be running the event and hoping to raise some money towards the track.

If you would like to sponsor your child for taking part in this Tenbury 10km event, or if you would like to sponsor the staff for their efforts then you can either pop in to see Mrs Newall or sponsor online here.

I hope to see lots of your smiling faces on the day of the race! If anyone else would like to sign up to run the event, then they still have places available, which can be accessed via the Tenbury 10km Facebook page.

    Huge thanks,

    Mr Griffiths.
