My name is Lucy Hill. I am a Mum of 3 and my younger two children have been lucky enough to have started at Tenterfield from 2 years old. Shortly after my daughter started in 2020, I became a parent governor as I had completely fallen in love with the nursery and was so impressed by the whole team. I also support with Tenterfield Tinies, a no cost playgroup for children under 3 held at the Civic Centre. They really care for all the children and their focus at all times is giving the children the best experience possible. Nursery schools do not receive the same level of funding as primary or secondary schools and therefore, Tenterfield rely hugely on donations and fundraising. The team put a huge amount of effort into helping raise funds in order to ensure the children have a wide range of toys and equipment to help them build on their learning and I wanted to support this by doing something myself.

Running the London Marathon has been one of my all time ambitions for a really long time. It is something I never thought I could be capable of, having never been particularly sporty. There is something about running that makes me believe I can do anything and spending the time out, in the fresh (& very cold!) air has really given me some great headspace away from motherhood.

This year, I decided to apply and was lucky enough to secure a ballot place, which has enabled me to have the freedom to choose who I fundraise for. I wanted to choose a smaller, local cause where I coukd really see the funds make a difference and with all my connections to Tenterfield, it was the perfect option.

Both my children have spent the majority of their time at Tenterfield in the garden. It is a fantastic and unique space for them to learn important skills, grow their confidence and make friends and I am really excited to use the funds raised to put into making that outdoor space even better. We are so lucky to have a facility like this in the local community and as it has been operating since 1965, it is definitely a true community cause.
