My sister is suffering from SBS-IF(short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure) she has been in a hospital since September 2016. She had suffered complications due to a uterine leiomyoma, and after 14 repeated surgeries she has been transferred to a hospital in France, where she still is even today.

The doctors from there have been able to make her stable and now she needs 12 hours/night of TPN (total parenteral nutrition: intravenous feedings that keep her alive).

Although she can be released from hospital to go back home, her treatment is around 5800 euros/month. She will need this treatment for the rest of her life and because she comes from Romania, the Health Department hasn't got all the details in place to be able to bring her back to her home.

I would like to continue here with an update of my sister's story and say that although she is feeling better physically, emotionally she is under a lot of stress. My words are not enough to describe how she might be feeling after 16 months in a hospital and not be able to return home. And if this wasn't enough she has to add the uncertainty of her future health that will always depend on this TPN.

I only have words of gratitude and respect to all the staff from Beaujon Hospital, who have done everything possible to help her. They will probably discharge her soon, because there are other patients who need special care and she can no longer be in a hospital.

This will mean that she will have to pay for her treatment herself because the Romanian Health Department is still far away of implementing such care. Even so if she were to return to Romania, not all the treatment will be available on the market.

The Romanian press has published her story hoping that they will push the Romanian Health Department to take action but until something changes, we have to be able to provide it for her and your support will be greatly appreciated.
