Story

I thank all those who donated to my previous fundraising appeal. You helped me raise £805.00 of 3050.00 I need to ship donated hospital equipment to Chikwaka Rural.in Zimbabwe. I now appealing for donations to raise the remaining balance of £2245.00 . Your help, no matter how small, will go along away in reducing the final shipping cost. For example a donation on £15.00 will transport 1 item to Chikwaka Mavhudzi Rural Hospital

These beds are considered new in some parts of the world but they would have gone into a skip following closure of a rehab centre in Bristol. Once transported to destination they will stop a suffering patient from sleeping either on the floor or soiled and warn out beds and motivate the nurses and a doctor that are dedicated but underpaid and under equipped workers of the hospital.

The situation is that Zimbabwe is in a political and economic crisis since the late 1990's. The Health care system has suffered most and is virtually dependant on donor funds to provide the required patient care.

The current political situation has created a huge gap between the poor and rich with those in poverty suffering the most. They do not have access to private medical care centres where resources are available.
They are getting treatment in settings that are either dilapidated or without the required equipment to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Chikwaka rural hospital was built in the 70's under the government of Ian Smith. The hospital covers a population of over 150000. The hospital structure is still intact however all equipment is worn out and outdated. The Victorian hospital beds' springs are hollow and no longer function as needed. The mattresses are completely worn out and heavily stained with excreta from patients' incontinence.

Due to HIV and AIDS , demand for health care services, hospital admission for hydration and treatment of acute ailments has increased. This has put pressure on the scarce resources.
Nurses and doctors are struggling to provide safe care to patients and to manage their own health and safety at work.
In support of the staff and the community of Chikwaka, I would like to ship donated hospital beds, lockers, tables and chairs to this hospital. I need your support to realise this dream. .
