Story

So, Matt and I are doing something crazy. In a real test of our new engagement (ha!) we have signed up to take part in a full 10 Miles/16km of mud, obstacles, ice water, sweat and tears, all to raise money for the AMAZING charity that is Duchenne UK!

Duchenne UK are close to our hearts because my now 8 year-old gorgeous, cheeky and hilarious nephew Joseph was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was just 4.

Joe's diagnosis was a devastating blow to our family. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare muscle wasting condition that effects 1 in 3500 new born boys. Boys like Joe struggle to run around, climb and enjoy many of the activities little boys love, and are generally confined full time to a wheelchair by the age of 12.

As these boys become teenagers, they become more dependent on support and motorised wheelchairs as they lose the use of their arms and experience problems with their breathing and hearts. Boys with Duchenne rarely make it into their 30's, and there is currently no cure.

But you wouldn't know that looking at this cheeky little man! Joe has taken all these challenges in his stride. He takes his medicine like a pro, has the most amazing sense of humour and loveable personality, and has even joined a football team recently called Adversity United!

Despite how well Joe has coped with all of the difficulties Duchenne has thrown at him, our only hope for Joe Joe and other little boys like him is research. We want him to have the best future possible, and fundraising for charities like Duchenne UK is the best way to make a difference.

So if you can, please consider donating even £5/$5 to support us taking part in this insane challenge. And even if you can't donate, please share this our link and help us reach our target and make a difference in the lives of little boys like our Joe Joe!

Lots of love,

Tess and Matt xx
