    Story

Once upon a time a guy from Hull had a dream... a dream from Heaven.

    Hair Metal Heaven.

This guy's name was Wright, Ian Wright.

Now Ian may not be a suave, sophisticated, secret agent but he is a real, genuine, honest man; a man who sacrificed everything to chase his dream.

Hair Metal Heaven Hull 2017 not only fulfilled Ian's dream, it fulfilled the dreams of everyone who attended, many of whom have had their say.

Please take just one minute to read what the man himself had to say:

We are happy we managed to pull it off but obviously we had many teething problems. It would have been easy to pull the plug and walk away but we committed to the weekend -50k worse off but but happy that the majority understood this was a massive undertaking and lessons have been learnt.

Our hearts were in the right place but sadly the structure we had in place for the weekend quickly crumbled as it became a rampaging beast that we couldn't take. I was being pulled in 20 different directions - picking up bands, chasing up hotels for selling a large portion of OUR VIP rooms on Booking.com so people had no rooms when they got their. I was happy to find them rooms elsewhere but it meant, in effect there was nobody directing things at the venue. This is when things began to go wrong.

I understand some of the negative comments and as I have all weekend will continue to take the bullets but I want to personally thank the crew who worked tirelessly and epically in the face of adversity. The venue's for being so accommodating. The bands for being amazing onstage and offstage and for understanding the issues that we were facing.

Special mention goes to Brent Woods, Sebastian Bach, Vinny Appice, George Lynch and Chris Wyse - for making one of many dreams a possibility. Not only were they amazing onstage but they are all sweethearts too - especially you Brent baby!

The city of Hull was alive this weekend with so many smiley happy faces. Please focus on the amazing performances and not the organisation because the latter can always be improved by fixing the mistakes but the chance of seeing another bill like this in Hull or the UK again is probably zero.

Of course I apologise profusely for the Mike Monroe show not happening. I was working tirelessly for 4 hours trying to get that thing moving on Saturday night. They wanted 5k cash which I was happy to provide them but as a consequence of paying another band earlier in the day in cash - with money scrabbled together from friends and family I could only offer him 3k and a transfer of the rest after he played. His management didn't want to know. I still didn't give up and spent another hour on the road busting my balls pulling money from cash points but got a call to say they didn't want to do it. I was gutted but more so for the fans eagerly waiting for him in Fruit. That is hard for me to take. I bear no I'll will to Michael or his management. I shoulder that burden of people waiting excitedly and that thought alone broke me on Saturday night.

To understand how finely balanced this was I had to borrow 50k to get through the weekend. I never once stiffed a band. I organised solutions to make them happy and im still doing that now. They came. They played. They 100% deserve to get payed. Im not sure many other promoters of a first time festival would have done this. Most would have cut their losses and done one. The festival had to go on for the fans and sending them home depressed and in riot mode was not plan A. I don't care how many mistakes were made you cannot deny that this line up and performances were absolutely special.

So now I figure a way to pick myself up, pay the money back to those that supported me and move forward. Skint? Yes. Happy? Kinda. Regretful? No. Optimistic. Yes.

To Jase, Dave, Mark, Mark, George, Mum, Dad, Bex, Becky, Martin, Marlo, Owen, Alisha, Kat, Alan, Theresa, Keri, Angel, HPSS, Welly, Fruit, C.C, Alex and Richard Black, Rob De Luca, Chas and the Code, Shuff, STS Touring, TandSImmigratiion, Brent Woods, Hull City Hall staff, Holiday Inn Express.and special mention to my daughter Elana who ruled the backstage area entertaining one and all.

I know there are a lot of negative comments but I've also seen some amazing ones too.

I always focus on the positive but after something this big that has consumed my life for a year and juggling it with family and a 10hr a day job it's tough to get motivated knowing the pressures of time and money that now face myself and my beautiful family.

Thanks to everyone that came. Sorry for the f**k ups.

    Thanks for the memories. Ian...

    THIS MAN NEEDS OUR HELP.

Everyone should try and live an extraordinary life. Don't settle for an ordinary life.

HMH Hull catapulted Ian into living an extraordinary life and, for that one moment in time, everyone who attended got to live an extraordinary life too.

My daughter, like many others, moaned at the delays but in comparison to a Guns n Roses concert it was pretty damn good!

Everyone got to see their favourite band with the added bonus of seeing bands they had never been given the opportunity to see before and probably never will again. Ian should rightly be proud of what he achieved. Full stop.

For goodness sake we were having breakfast with Loudness, Leatherwolf, Babylon A.D. and Treat. People were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Davy Vain, Danger Danger, Reckless Love, Vinnie Appice, Chris Wyse and some cool dude named Sebastian Bach!

You simply cannot put a monetary figure on such memories but Ian has had to pay the price ... to the tune of £50 K.

Unbeknown to Ian I have set up this FUND to raise whatever amount I can to help Ian and his family. I have only met Ian once, for two minutes on Friday evening when he was obviously juggling a thousand and one problems but he still took the time to explain what was happening. I don't have much money but I have happily started the ball rolling with a £20 donation.

Ian had the balls for going toe to toe with a Metal-headed Monster, something that Hull had never seen the likes of before and, if this appeal fails, will never see again. Ian made this happen for us so let's make it happen for him.

Please give whatever you can to help this man out in his time of need. Thank you.

    Terry

Hi everyone, as you can tell this is my first attempt at a fund raising page and I have obviously upset Mr Ted Poley by my naivety. I sincerely apologize. This is not a scam . Please view my Facebook page and you will. see this. All I want to do as a gesture pf my appreciation for Ian's efforts at HMH Hull is to try and raise whatever I xcan to help Ians financial problems. Myself and my daughter have both donated £20 and two other supporters have donated. All the money less 5% fee to just giving will go to Ian. I

I've been taking my daughter to gigs since she was 12 years old; music is her life. I met Ian Glenn Wright at Hair Metal Heaven Hull this weekend. Despite everything my daughter had the time of her life which, to me, is priceless. That is why I've set up this appeal to help Ian.
