Weʼre raising £5,000 to help fund Boat Building Experience, my latest Community Project - Let's build a boat together! For ages 12 to 99

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

Building a wooden boat, getting into it and on to the water is magic! It can be a life changing experience. Continuing from our success with Boat Camp for children and several boat building schemes with adults, Boat Building Experience is the new, exciting adventure where pairs of adults or children work with me to create Joansa,

a beautiful John Welsford design rowing boat.

I don't want to charge anyone to participate. In that way anyone can come along and everything necessary will be provided. People can make a donation if they'd like to. For some it will be a therapy, others will want to learn boat building skills, many will grow in confidence and everyone will have fun as Joansa takes shape and finally floats gracefully on the water.

Not charging a fee means that I need to fundraise to cover my costs and to start the next course. Already I am over subscribed. Your help will mean that many people will be helped. Thank you!

It's cold! but work on Joansa is progressing well and everyone is thoroughly enjoying it. We've started fixing on the first planks and she's looking great. On Facebook you can follow us at Boat Building Experience @boatbuildingexperience In the Summer we ran a boat building course and more here in Faversham. You might be interested to see a film made of Boat Camp 2018 which shows eight children constructing and rowing them on the creek. 20 minute version: https://bit.ly/2A1DpvJ 4 minute version: https://vimeo.com/302146627

The construction of Joansa is progressing very well. Seven adults and three teenagers have been coming to the two-hour sessions over six days. Next week we hope to attach the stringers ready for the planking to begin! Here is a photo from Day 6. A pupil from QE School and I are fixing the transom to the stern spine and hull.

Very good to see so much enthusiasm amongst the boat builders. 'How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.'
