Story
The Survivors Club is a weekly support group for women who have experienced sexual violence, in which hand sewing supplies are provided to offer a mindful activity which can be particularly helpful when discussing difficult topics. These sessions offer a supportive space for people to come and chat and sew, knowing they are not alone in their experience.
Things like this are so important and unfortunately, due to underfunding and high demand, many providers have long waiting lists or the lists are at capacity. That is why The Survivors Club was started; to create a welcoming space for those who need it.
Hand sewing can be a mindful, meditative activity which can make difficult thoughts and conversations feel a little easier. It can also be a beneficial creative outlet for some. This is why we provide sewing materials during our group sessions; to have a first try, to doodle with thread, to learn a new skill and practice between sessions, or to ignore completely- it's all up to the individual.
Your donation contributes directly to the running costs of this organisation and allows us to continue our work. Running costs include physical supplies ( craft materials, books, refreshments), promotional materials ( our media output is designed by our volunteer designer but this covers printing costs), the boring bits ( insurance, domains), training opportunities, and hopefully more as we continue to grow.
Thank you so much!
